1.) Go to "My AIM" which is on your buddylist menu at the top. Then go "Edit Options" and from there "Edit Preferences."
2.) Now select the "Idle Message" category which is in the categoty list on the left side.
3.) Check the box next to where it says "When Idle auto respond with:."
4.) GO ahead and enter the away message you want users to see while you're away.
Unfortunately, this message will only take effect after you being idle
for about 10 or 20 minutes, I'm unsure which one it is. The posotive
side to this though is that they cannot see the away message (
) sign by your screen name and you can always know what's on their mind because they'll IM you as if you aren't away.
1.) Click "Setup" in the bottom right corner of your buddylist.
2.) Right click any group on your buddylist and click "Sort Group."
3.) Now it's up to you to repeat this and do it to other groups as well. You're done.
This allows you to chat with any buddy(s) you desire while being signed
off. The main point is to chat with a certain person or certian people
without being bugged by others.
1.) Direct Connect
with the buddy(s) you want to chat with once signed off by going
"People" then "Open Direct IM Connection" in an IM window.
2.) A window pops up. Click "Connect."
3.)
Notice you can't wait for a direct connection to be accepted by more
than one buddy at a time so if you're going to connect to more than one
person, connect one at a time and wait until the person accepts.
4.)
Once direct connected to all the people you want to chat with while
signed off go ahead and sign off. DO NOT EXIT AIM, just right click the
AIM logo in your taskbar and at the top of the list click "Sign Off."
You should now be able to continue chatting with whoever you're directly connected with while being signed off.
The left button opens a new IM window and the right button opens a chat
invite. It's a bit difficult to click the buttons the first time you
try since they're hidden but click a couple times in different spots if
you don't get it the first time.
1.) Open a new IM window by making sure a group name is selected
on your buddy list and clicking IM at the bottom left corner of your
buddylist.
2.) In the box next to where it says "To:" put
the screen name that you are sending a file to and add a "!" at the
end. So if the screen name is "john" then you would put "john!"
3.)
Now just type the message you want to send and click send. Please note
that you have to go back to the IM window where you are sendinf the
file to see the other persons replies.
1.) From the buddylist menu go "My AIM" > "Edit Options" > "Edit Preferences."
2.) Go to the "IM/Chat" category and click "Mobile IM."
3.)
You should be taken to a website. Follow the instructions and when
you're done your screen name will always appear online, but when you
sign off your AIM client it will appear as mobile and all your IMs at
the moment foward to your cell phone.
1.) Make a chat room with exchange 16 by using the following
link to invite you and whoever you'd like into your chat.
"aim:GoChat?RoomName=Room+Name&Exchange=16." Where it says
"Room+Name" replace that with the room name you'd like to create for
your chatroom. Note that any space shall be replaced with a "+"
2.) You should be able to enter any word as the chatroom name in the link above.
3.) Another benefit for using exchange 16 is that the chatroom can hold up to 48 people.
To find out what your warning percentage is, simply add yourself to
your buddylist. By your screen name will be your warning percentage
(nothing if 0#%). You can also use this to IM yourself to find out what
your buddy icon is or test anything you'd like on yourself.
1.) To direct connect to your buddy go "People" > "Open Direct IM Connection" in an IM window.
2.) Now press f12 on the keyboard and start talking. Make sure you have a microphone connected.
3.)
You can press "Send" anytime you'd like if you want to send it anytime
before 10 seconds. If not, just record your 10 seconds and press "send"
after it's complete.
1.) Open the sign on screen on AIM.
2.) Select the screen name you want to remove.
3.) Lasty, press the delete key which should appear as "Del" or "Delete" on your keyboard.
1.) Open a blank IM
2.) Click on the arrow thats
pointing down that is connected to the text box next to where it says
"To:." and you should see a list of the last 10 people who you opened
IM windows of.
You can make shortcuts on your desktop or in any other folder that will
allow you to IM a certain person by clicking them. I know this works in
windows XP but I'm not sure about other Operating Systems.
1.) Right click in the folder you want the shortcut created and go "New" then "Shortcut." A wizard should popup.
2.)
In the text box that is under where it says "Type the location if the
item:" paste the following location and be sure to replace
"AIM+Giant" with the screen name you are using the shortcut for.
Please note that a "+" must be added instead of each space in the
screen name (if there are any).
"C:\Program Files\AIM95\aim.exe" aim:goIM?ScreenName=AIM+Giant
3.) Complete the wizard and you're done.
1.) Make a direct connection with your buddy by clicking "People" > "Open Direct IM Connection" in an IM window.
2.)
Now you can type as fast and as much as you want with no rate limit at
all. This is also useful for pasting a large amount of text.
1.) Copy and Paste the following code into an IM or where ever you want the hidden hyperlink to appear.
1.) Go to "My AIM" which is on your buddylist menu at the top. Then go "Edit Options" and from there "Edit Preferences."
2.) Now select the category titled "Away Message."
3.) Select the away message you want to put on from the text box under where it says "Labels for messages:."
4.)
Finally, constantly and quicly click "I'm Away" then "I'm BacK" about
20 times. Your away message should be on and if you notice, you are
also able to chat while it's on.
This can be useful if you have a good screen name that is possibly
wanted by other people and gets attempted to crack such as 3 character
or one word screen names like "NBA" or "Speaker."
1.) Fist rule when you have a screen name you don't want
jacked is, NEVER have a common password for it such as 123456, 123321,
aolsucks, etc.
2.) Now decide whether you want to use
words for your hard password or a random combination. With words it
will be easier to memerize at first.
3.) If you decide to
use words then you should create a password with at least two random
words that have nothing to do with each other and two random numbers.
4.) If you chose to use a random combination which, than you
should make it at least 8 characters long and have it include at least
3 numbers. Also, just to make it safer, make at least one letter
capitalized. So something such as "hJh2xJx9" would work.
5.) Lastly, if you want to be completely safe, add html to your password. Make it something like "M"
and that should really keep your screen name from being cracked because
it is extremely rare for a password list to have something like that on
it.
To sign on to AIM while your s/n is rated simply sign on using AIM Express which can be found at aim.com or directly by clicking here
1.) Hold down shift and press enter where you type your messages and it will skip a line.
1.) To create a horizontal line in an IM or your profile, press down the "Ctrl" button and "l" at the same time.
